From all counts it appears we have survived the madness that was the voting period for the 2012 PDMAs. And now that it’s over, we bet everyone is chomping at the bit to see who made it into the Top 3!
We are pleased to be able to provide you with two early announcement winners. The winner for Best Website goes to Teknoscape. And taking out the Best International Performance is James Zabiela, hosted by Habitat. Congratulations to both winners!
Speaking of winners, everyone will be grinners at the awards ceremony on Sunday the 2nd December at the Court Hotel where entry is FREE. The party kicks off at 3pm and EVERYONE is invited to come along and partake in celebrating another fantastic year for the Perth’s dance music scene.
Our regular hosts, Dart and Blend, will be running the show once again along with our pick of local DJs that we know will keep you in the party mood. This year we have Bokchoy vs Flaunt, Carla, FTW, Micah, Mot3k, Muller & Phetsta in the booth and all are ready to rip up the dance floor with their unique flavour of music styles.
Thanks to Mellen Events and Boomtick, we also have a swag of prizes to give away. Keep an ear out for the comps that Dart & Blend will be running throughout the day!
We are all looking forward to seeing everyone come down this year to the Court to share in the excitement and the glory as we announce the winners for 2012. The PDMAs always promises to be one of the highlight events of the year, where we all have the opportunity to catch up, give thanks and get loose! See YOU there.

It won’t be long now until the top 3 are announced on 21st November and we know that everyone is chomping at the bit to hear more about the awards party! So to tide you over until the announcements, check out the local talent we have lined up to put us in the festive mood with a musical flavour for everyone’s tastes:
Bokchoy vs Flaunt
Carla
FTW
Micah
Mot3k
Muller
Phetsta
The party at The Court is on the 2nd December and will commence at 3pm, drawing to a close with the last man standing or midnight – whichever comes first! Why should you make the effort to come along? Because not only will our local music line up keep you dancing, the talents of our hosts Dart and Blend will keep you captivated with their presentations and their off-the-cuff style competitions in which everyone has a chance to win some great pries! Best of all, entry is free to this fantastic afternoon of celebrations!
Don’t forget to make sure your vote counts as there is only one week left to have your voice heard by those in the scene that make your musical memories!
Here are some more details on our PDMA DJs!
Bokchoy vs Flaunt
Flaunt and Bokchoy (not models, we swear) – “Punching Unicorns in the face Since 1865™” Renowned for extreme crowd moistening, these party favourites pack a percussive punch and can guarantee music rated at 100CSPM (ChinStrokesPerMinute). Bring goggles and an EpiPen full of adrenaline!
Carla
Bass Driven. Funky edged. Party vibes. These are just some of the ingredients that make up a Carla set. She has played many of the club nights around Perth over the last few years and now gets to bring her funky sounds to the PDMA party!
FTW
Known as two of Perth’s favourite independent artists, “JS” and “Bezwun” have joined forces to create FTW. Coming from two separate ends of the music spectrum, they have channelled their own influences to create a vibrant duo based on high energy performances filled with “turntablism” and party popping production. The combination of these two together has formed a brand that embraces Booty Breaks and jacking party vibes – perfect to get everyone moving and grooving!
Micah
Ask any punter in Perth who Micah is and chances are they were probably rockin’ out to one of his sets last weekend. Micah has earned himself the reputation of one of Perth’s leading DJs, through his ability to get even the coldest of feet on the dance floor, his energy and enthusiasm behind the decks and through the burgeoning scene which has grown with him over the last decade. A banging set from this Perth favourite and past PDMA winner is sure to get the dance floor heaving at the awards party!
Mot3k
Electronic renegadez MOT3K (Dazz K & JP), combine as the freshest progressive Tech artists to come out of Australia in the last few years. Their followers here in Australia, the US, UK and Europe, share the same enthusiasm for deep underground, “unheard” dance music as they do. Dazz K, an experienced genre transcending DJ, JP a technical studio wizard with a back catalogue spanning D&B and Techno bring an unbiased wealth of talent to the table. They are Mot3k – believe the HYPE!
Muller
Finding his niche in jungle/Drum N Bass, Muller has both toured internationally and collaborated with other Perth producers on some major labels, showcasing his impressive talent with broken beats. Currently on regular rotation at events such as Fluid at The Velvet Lounge and various other guest spots around the trap, Muller continues to deliver quality sets and remain musically relevant after
more than a decade behind the decks.
Phetsta
Phetsta burst onto the Drum & Bass scene in 2005 when he signed exclusively to the legendary Simon Bassline Smith’s imprint Technique Recordings. He quickly carved his own sound within the genre with early releases such as Intergalactic and Blur. Since then Phetsta has had a whole swag of massively successful releases with the most recent being his Prism EP. This EP delivered across the BPM’s, serving up full-throttle drum & bass alongside some gorgeous dubstep excursions.
It’s time for the voting to begin! Today the party people of Perth will have the opportunity to once again pay homage to those who have made their musical memories this year. Voting will be open for only 2 weeks, and will close on November 7th. We want you to think about what gave you THAT moment – was it the individual DJ, the promoter, the venue, or even the artwork on the flyer? This is your chance to let them know by giving them your vote.
For anyone who hasn’t participated in the Perth Dance Music Awards in previous years, head to the website www.perthdancemusicawards.org and click on “vote” for your chance to make your thanks heard. As we take these awards very seriously, we have strict rules and guidelines on how to vote so please follow the links on the website to ensure you are up to date.
The “Hall of Fame” returns this year, after celebrating the induction of Deon Mellican (Loaded Dice) and Simon “Hutcho” Hutchinson in 2011. This year we will be recognising Simon Barwood (Air Nightclub) and Colin F Bridges (RTRfm) who have both been cornerstones in supporting and shaping the Perth dance music scene to date. These guys were selected by the PDMA committee from the many nominations received from RTR, Teknoscape, Drum, Xpress an d the previous year’s inductees. Check out the website for more info on our 2012 inductees.
Last year saw the move of the PDMAs to its new home at The Court Hotel. With its open air beer garden and easy access to all bars, a very merry time was had by all. As always, this area is dedicated to everyone who wants to celebrate the awards on Sunday 2nd December. We have an outstanding line up of local talent who will be showing us all just why we need to recognise and celebrate our growing scene. Seriously, what better way to kick off the start of summer in Perth?! Stay tuned, we have more exciting announcements to make in the coming weeks!
Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook (www.facebook.com/PerthDanceMusicAwards) and Twitter (@PDMAwards) as well for all the latest PDMA updates!
