When all the other clubs are quiet, it is guaranteed that Ambar will be heaving with people who go there for the sense of community, music and atmosphere. These unique aspects of the club and all Boomtick events are what Liam prides himself on.

Ambar has won a total of seven PDMAs for Best Nightclub and Boomtick have won the Outstanding Contribution award five times, being the first to win the award in it’s debut year. “Breakfest” has also won numerous awards as the Best Event and also for it’s recognisable flyer.

Greg Packer

greg 2010 InducteesAnyone who attended raves in the early days will have a story to tell about watching Greg Packer play. People would flock inside when it was Greg’s turn to step behind the decks as no one would want to miss his set. His mixing and scratching skills are second to none and he has often been regarded as Western Australia’s best DJ. He started off in the clubs in 1990 mixing Techno and House with Hip Hop and Breaks but always stayed true to his UK roots and followed Hardcore/Breakbeat through the eras until it became what we know today as Drum N Bass.

Greg has won at least one PDMA every year since the awards began in 1998, equalling 14 PDMAs in total. Ten of those awards were for Best Drum N Bass DJ which he won back to back from 1998 until 2007. As well as being the first DJ to win the DnB PDMA, Greg was also the first DJ in Western Australia to play Drum n Bass and the first DJ to play DnB Australia wide on Triple J in 1994.

Greg has played hundreds of guest spots, supporting just about every DnB international to grace our shores. As well as having toured the UK and Europe, Greg regularly tours Australia and NZ. He has released over 100 tracks as a DnB producer and now has his own label, Interphase.

Greg Packer continues to draw crowds when he plays and he will always be an integral part of the DnB scene in Perth.

Rob & Lisa MacGregor (Ragga Bone)

hatters 2010 InducteesRob and Lisa are well known as two of the pioneers of the dance music scene in Perth. To some they are better known as Big Mac & Lily from Ragga Bone. Both had their beginnings in the scene in the late 80′s with Rob DJ’ing regularly at The Underground from 1987 and Lisa working behind the bar at Limbo’s. Rob and Lisa put on their first club night called “The All Night Pumping Station” in 1988 at FScott’s (now Shape), which was the first time EVER in Perth that a club had run to a different format on one of its nights. From here they went on to shape the scene further with their infamous Telepathy and Dejavu raves and various other events up until 2003.

The first international they toured was Grooverider in 1992. He played at the then James Street Nightclub (now Rise) and from here they went on to open Ragga Bone Records in 1993 with Jay. Ragga Bone Records imported DnB records which then supplied stores in Melbourne, Hobart, Aukland and Sydney. With the experience of touring internationals already under their belt they began touring DnB DJ’s which put Perth on the map for this genre and set a strong following which is still present today. The Drum Club was a DnB night they ran and it was their most successful. These nights are still talked about today amongst those that remember.

The most fun Rob and Lisa had during their time promoting was at DC’s nightclub. The great atmosphere and good team of people meant their nights were always remembered. Rob and Lisa are responsible for the Madhatters Ball, an event that is still running today. It was their favourite event and they are pleased that it still has a massive following. A testament to the impact Rob and Lisa had is that when they decided to leave DC’s to move to Detour (now Capitol) people told them their nights would no longer be popular due to the city location. Within 2 weeks everyone had followed them.

Without Rob and Lisa from Ragga Bone it is hard to say how the dance music scene in Perth would look. To still be talked about for their events and who they were as people with such passion is truely something special and worthy of recognising.
