Sep 2011 28

You have exactly the first three songs to get that perfect photo of what is happening on stage but you have everyone yelling at you from the barrier, “Can you take a photo of me and me mate?!”, and security telling you to move on. The distractions are endless but you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else other than in the thick of the fray snapping up a frenzy because you love the chase of getting that one special shot that will eternally capture the magic of the music.

If you are one of the talented, professional or amateur – we don’t discriminate, scene photographers that has been madly running about Perth’s clubs and festivals this last year then you should definitely enter your top five photos into the 2011 PDMAs ‘Best Scene Photograph’ competition. Entry submissions are to be taken from the past 12 months (22nd October 2010 and 19th October 2011) and must be from WA events only. Every year the entries amaze us, Angela King took out the award for 2010 with her phenomenal shot of Andy C at Heavyweight Soundz.

For those of you who like to take a more desktop approach to your art, fear not, the ‘Best Flyer’ category is also open for submissions. This year we will once again be giving the talented graphic designers the opportunity to submit their work and get recognition for those images that bring us the joyful news of the amazing line ups for our favourite events and festivals. The previous year’s entries were fantastic, with Igor Kadic snapping up the award for Lucid Dreaming.

An industry panel led by Errin Gregory, the photography editor of Teknoscape will narrow the playing field down to the top 25, then you the public will vote for your favourite. Please ensure you read and adhere to this year’s guidelines located on our website as any entries that fail to do so will not be considered.

Don’t forget that we are now going to be on Soundcloud nine with all of the local music producers who submit one of their favourite tracks for everyone to vote for in the ‘Best Local Tune’ award. Please make sure your one entry is at least 50% home grown and released in the last 12 months as well as submitting the details of the label and release date.

Entries for ‘Best Scene Photograph’, ‘Best Flyer’ and ‘Best Local Tune’ open Wednesday 28th September and close Wednesday 19th October. Please visit the guidelines section for more info.
