1999 Perth Dance Music Awards Results

1999 - Napster begins its short but much-loved reign as the king of the pirates. Sega launches the vastly impressive Dreamcast gaming console. Moby releases the "Play" album. "Teknoscape Productions" holds the Atom One event at the Embassy Ballroom, winning the "best all ages rave" category. Kevin somehow wins and award and no ones quite sure how. Two HardBoiled gigs in one year breaks peoples livers and brains. Gravity shuts up shop as the reigning king of the Jungle. Interjecta wins the best MC award and Hardline Reckordings fans are surprised again by another win. DJ Heaven the hottie wins best international DJ, and who could argue?


Best House DJ: Dirty Den
There were alot of contenders for this spot, with Dirty Den taking it out with 18% of the votes, just over Dan Stinton (16%) and Big Mac (13%).

Best Techno/Tech-house Dj: DJ MRW
MRW has been pushing Techno for a long while, and with his upfront selection, and energetic Dj sets MRW secured this one easily, receiving 57% of all the votes with his closest rival being Dj Puff at 23%.

Best Hardcore Dj: DJ Kevin
Dj Kevin is one of the hardcore innovators, an extremely close battle, with Kevin on 29% of the votes and DJ Hutcho with 28%.

Best Drum'n'Bass Dj: DJ Greg Packer
Greg Packer is WA's best Dj and has always pushed Drum'n'Bass, an easy win for Greg, with 51% of votes, Dj Frantik his closest competitor at 17%.

Best MC: MC Interjecta
Interjecta has really worked hard over the past few years, and its finally paid off with him scoring 43% of the votes, his closest competitors were MC Method and MC Assassin both at 16%.

Best Non-club Venue: Belmont Race Course
Ministry and Science Fiction made this one a favourite by many, with 37% of the votes. Other contenders were the Swan Barracks (17%) and the Mfi Warehouse (16%).

Best Nightclub: The Globe
1999 was the year for the Globe, with many making it a weekend tradition, Raggabone crew proving ample entertainment for all, and thats why it scored 46% of the votes, with it closest competitor Zanadu at 22%.

Best Record Retailer: Central Station
Hard Afro secured first place with 22% of the votes, just over Optimum which scored 21% of the votes. Last years no.1 label Hardline Recordings dropped with only 16% of the votes.

Best Local Record Label: Hardline Recordings
Hardline Recordings, a underground label promoting Perth's hardcore artists around the worldwide does it again with 46% of the votes. Optimum scored 20% and Red Ember 17%.

Best Local Radio Show: Full Frequency
RTR 92.1's Full Frequency took this one, on every weekday, sure was popular with 70% of the votes, its only other contender was Looney Choons on 29%.

Best Free Magazine: Hype Magazine
With an excellent dance music section, Hype mag won with 56% of the votes, Xpress had 31% and Zebra 13% of the votes.

Best All Ages Rave: Atom One
This was one of the biggest raves of '99, and now can be called the best with 26% voting for it in this varied section. Wax Off was it's closest contender at 18%.

Best 18+ Dance Party: Science Fiction NYE
This huge event was how 10,000+ saw in the year 2000 and its no wonder it won, with 35% of the votes, close behind was Ministry of Sound at 25%.

Best Flyer: Atom One
Perth has some of the best flyer designers and this is a testament to that, a close one between Atom One (34%) and Science Fiction (33%).

Best International DJ Set: DJ Heaven
There were many different ones here, but Dj Heaven is one Perth favourite international DJ's with 12% of the votes, close behind was Brisk (9%) and Slipmatt (8%)
